night before last I camped on Hadrian's wall, at lookout post 44A on the ridge near Greenhead, and the walked along the top of the wall yesterday pretending I was a patrolling soldier.

But then over a ridge appeared an ACTUAL Roman legionary!
well, a dutch guy dressed as one anyway. Shield, spear, the works - although he said he'd had to leave some kit behind because the weight was threatening to pull him over on the steep hills!
He still had 30 kg of kit!
Later in the day I met another guy with 30 kg of kit, this time a pennine way walker going south. Ridiculous!

stayed in a bunkhouse last night in Bellingham, first shower in a week, lovely. off into the murk this morning though. After breakfast.
